Ingredients:
Hamburger Patty Steaks:
- 2 lbs ground beef
- 1 cup chopped red, green, or yellow bell pepper
- 1 cup chopped white or yellow onion
- 2 cloves fresh garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 2 tsp yellow mustard
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp Lawry's salt, pink salt, or sea salt
- 1 cup Italian bread crumbs (see note for homemade bread crumbs)
- 2 tsp olive oil
Note: Easy Homemade Italian Breadcrumbs
- 2 slices white bread, cubed
- 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1/2 tsp dried parsley or 1 tbsp fresh parsley
Instructions for Homemade Breadcrumbs:
- Bake the bread at 300 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes or until the bread dries, stirring every 5 minutes.
- Once ready, place in a food processor with Italian seasoning and parsley and pulse until crumbled.
Gravy Sauce:
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter
- 4 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp ketchup
- 3 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup sliced onion
- 8 oz Baby Bella or white mushrooms, cleaned and sliced
- 1 cup half-and-half
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine all the hamburger patty ingredients except the oil. Mix well to ensure everything is combined. Divide the mixture into 8 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about 3 inches round.
- In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for 3 to 5 minutes on each side, until medium rare (they will continue cooking in the gravy). Remove the patties and set aside.
- In the same pan, add butter and flour, stirring until golden brown. Add onion powder and stir for 30 seconds.
- Add beef broth, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce, stirring until well combined. Add onion and mushrooms, cooking for 3 to 5 minutes.
- Add the half-and-half and ground black pepper, stirring for a minute, then add the patties back into the pan.
- Simmer for 10 to 15 minutes. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese or fresh/dried parsley as desired.
- Serve over egg noodles, mashed potatoes, rice pilaf, or steamed rice.
